Dome volcanoes (Lava domes) are common features on volcanoes around the world. Lava domes they are known to exisist on plate margins as well as in intra-arc hotspots, and on heights above 6000 m and in the sea floor.
Wayang-Windu is a twin volcano that consists of Mount Wayang (Indonesian:Gunung Wayang, "Mount Shadow") and Mount Windu. They are located just to the east of the town of Pangalengan in the Bandung Regency (Kabupaten orDistrict) in West Java, Indonesia, about 40 km south of the city of Bandung. The area has been an active geothermal project. Mount Wayang has a 750 m wide crescentic crater which holds four groups of fumaroles. Mount Windu has a 350 m wide crater.
Mount Yoko (横岳 Yoko-dake?) also Mount Kita Yoko, is an active lava domelocated in the Northern Yatsugatake Volcanic Group of the Yatsugatake Mountains,Honshū, Japan. Mount Yoko has shown the most recent activity and is now considered an active volcano. It last erupted about 800 years ago. The eruption consisted of ash with a lava flow of some 3 million cubic meters. The eruption was dated by corrected radiocarbon dating. The next previous eruption was in or after 400 BCE.
Black Butte is a cluster of overlapping dacite lava domes in a butte, a parasiticsatellite cone of Mount Shasta. It is located directly adjacent to Interstate 5 atmilepost 742 between the city of Mount Shasta and Weed, California. The highway crosses a 3,912 ft (1,192 m) pass, Black Butte Summit, at the western base of the lava domes. The lava domes were extruded at the foot of the cone of Shastinafollowing the period of its major eruptions about 9,000–10,000 years ago. A United States Forest Service fire lookout tower was built on the summit in the 1930s, but destroyed during the Columbus Day Storm of 1962. A new lookout was built in 1963 and operated until 1973. The building was moved by helicopter to a new location in 1975 and only the concrete foundation remains today. A 2.5-mile (4.0 km) long trail leads to the summit from a trailhead accessible by dirt roads off the Everitt Memorial Highway. The summit boasts an outstanding view of the southwest side of Shasta and Shastina, and on clear days Mount McLoughlin is easily visible 70 miles (113 km) to the north in Oregon.
